It was a very warm, dark day in winter. The birds were in a feeding frenzy as they anticipated the storms that were soon to come.
The lady of the house walked slowly through the rooms, looking out the windows and smiling at the feathered creatures. Her painful back appeared to be doing better this morning, yet she was very careful while walking to the kitchen for her morning cup of coffee. Ahhh...nothing like a cup of steaming hot coffee to get the blood flowing to the brain.
The gentleman of the house had been up for a little while and was wide awake and immediately began a conversation as his lady walked gingerly to the coffee pot. Her brain was not yet comprehending what he was saying. His voice continued, yet the words made no sense to her. Finally, he remembers that his lovely lady cannot make conversation immediately upon arising in the mornings.
They both move to their respective recliners to watch the news and sip the life preserving liquid. His lady was coming alive and beginning to discuss the news with him and then prepared some old fashioned oatmeal for their breakfast. The lady has her check-up in April and wants to have better numbers on her cholesterol but struggles to eat the healthy food. She manages to get it all down.
Her gentleman offered to go purchase the groceries of which she was very appreciative. While he was gone, she tidied the kitchen and began the laundry and did this all so carefully, yet the painful twinges in her back began again. She knew it was time to stop and gently made it back to the bed for rest.
The gentleman returned with the items on the list along with a few extra things of which one was a bag of Krispy Kreme Crullers. The lady remained quiet, but thought, "The temptation is too great. Why, oh why, does he bring these in the house?" She let the thought remain silent and thanked him for getting the groceries.
After an easy lunch of deli chicken, rice, and spinach, the lady made her way back to the bed to do some shopping at the Fat Quarter Shop.
She had received an email the night before from Faith at Fresh Lemon Quilts announcing that the lady had won a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop. How excited she was!
So, the lady finally decided to purchase two fat quarter bundles of a fabric line she has had her eye on for a little while. She ordered the dark blue and light blue bundles of Blueberry Crumb Cake. She can hardly wait for them to arrive in the mail! A 'Barn Raising' log cabin quilt is planned for this fabric with yellow scraps for the center blocks.
The lady is ready for her back to hurry and get better because she really misses being in her sewing room. She loves to read, but keeping her hands busy is her favorite.
She plans to spend part of the evening getting comfy in the recliner and watching some DVDs with the gentleman until the storms start rolling in. They have the weather radio on and a basement to get into, if needed. They have been praying that no one will get hurt or lose their home in the predicted storms for the night.

I hope your back is feeling better and you all stay safe tonight.
ReplyDeleteStay safe, its headed this way too. I am sorry about your back, I will be praying for healing.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Michele. We are fine. My back is feeling better this morning but Hubby wants me to continue resting it through the weekend so hopefully I can become more active around the house next week.
DeleteTake it easy so that back can mend.
ReplyDeleteAs for the doughnuts...well maybe they will help to make it feel better.:0)
Just one won't hurt!!
Stay safe in the bad weather.
Happy to read you are doing fine after the storm. You have a wonderful way of writing, Sharon! I'm sorry about your bacj, but I had a great time reading this!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you didn't have to run down to the basement.
ReplyDeleteI pray your back gets better soon.
I love oatmeal. Hopefully you didn't eat the whole bag of donuts yourself. They are tempting and I probably would have. lol
congrats on you win. I love that Blueberry Crumb line.
ah...ya, crullers are my favourite, so I would have been right there with my hand in the bag!! Hope you feel better soon!!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear that your back is giving you some problems. I guess the blessing is that you could at least go online shopping with your $25 win while down and out! Hmmm a bag of donuts would be very difficult to say "no thanks!" My hubby lately has been bringing home potato chips. I just hear his hand the rattle the bag and I am done! I'm thankful that the storms were not as bad as it could have been. We had some tornadoes touch down in the county adjacent to us. One house had the whole upstairs torn away and all 3 children were swept up in it and taken about 300 feet from the house. All survived and not seriously hurt. That's what I call a miracle! I will send a prayer up for healing of your back! Take care!
